What if the greatest weapon in the age-old war between good and evil was inside of you?
Crystal Scott has always felt different but tried hard to blend in. Now that she's scored the lead in the school play, has a boyfriend she adores, and a best friend she can't live without, she finally feels like she belongs.
A few days before prom, a mysterious young man appears and suddenly she has to figure out how to use the weapon of Light she has inside her or mankind is doomed.
Demons are determined to tip the war in their favor no matter what the cost and they're hot on Crystal's trail. With danger around every corner, she doesn't know if she can save herself, never mind anyone else. When things look darkest and there's nowhere to turn, Crystal must find the strength to use her newfound gifts against the tide of evil threatening all of them--or die trying.

I was torn in my rating; I liked some aspects, but didn't like others. Therefore the neutral rating. This is a YA book for sure. It is also a highly moralistic one. If you're wanting a very squeaky clean read that has paranormal aspects, you might enjoy this one. It revolves around a high school girl who has been raised with high moral standards, which is in itself a welcome improvement over a lot of YA novels. She finds out that Demons exist, and that her 'goodness' gives her a certain power over them when they invade human hosts. I'd recommend this with no hesitation to a younger audience. However, most older teens, and adults, may find it lacking.
Some characters were nicely developed. The Heroine was not too hardheaded, and wasn't the usual sarcastic whiner that most of these books portray. Don't get me wrong--she still pulled some stupid moves, but if she hadn't, I guess there wouldn't have been much of a plot.
This story, although reasonably well written, just wasn't exciting enough. It needed more suspense. It needed more frightening Demons. It needed to make one care what happened. It just needed more. It was an easy and quick read, just not a very memorable one. Very few proofreading errors, though, which was a refreshing change. The ending was satisfying, and left things open for a sequel. It might prove interesting to read more of this young Heroine and her fight against evil.

Aura eBook Rebecca Lynn Talley Reviews
I liked this book... It was well written and the storyline was engaging. As said before by other reviewers, this is a typical good vs evil story involving demons and one's inner light.
Crystal is a teenaged girl who moves around a lot and really loves her parents. For the first time she feels like a normal girl...until she start seeing weird things. Although a little predictable, it's definitely a good read! I couldn't put it down once I started reading.
There were a few things, though, that made me lower the rating.
--------------------SPOILER--------------------------
One issue I have with this book is the way that it dealt with Nates attempt to rape Crystal. First of all, the word "rape" was never mentioned nor was the term "sexual assault." All that was mentioned was "assault"...once. I firmly believe that the target audience, young women, need to hear those terms, especially since 1/5 women in America will be sexually assaulted in their lifetimes, many before the age of 25. The lack of calling it what it is because it may be embarrassing only reinforces the idea that it's shameful to be a victim.
Secondly, at one point, Crystal wondered if she had done something to lead him on, I'm assuming to try to understand why he attacked her. While this is a common thought for sexual assault victims, I wish that somewhere in the book someone would have told her that it's never the victim's fault.
The other issue I have is the way that virginity is treated. Now, I want to stress that I'm very pleased with how Crystal stood her ground and decided that she's not ready for sex until marriage, despite social pressures and raging hormones. I believe that every one should have the exact amount of sex they are comfortable with, which, in this case, was none. However, the author equivocates loss of virginity with the loss of value (virgins have more light... To "neutralize" Crystal, the demons were going to have her willingly have sex with them), something that I think is harmful. Whether you're telling people that they're prudish for not having sex or sluts for having sex, you're still telling them what to do with their bodies.
Besides what I mentioned above, I loved this book!
Classic story of Light vs Dark. 17yo Crystal learns she has Light in abundance but is tempted by her boyfriend, best friend, and others - the idea being that falling to temptation will dilute that Light, eventually leading to take over by a Demon. In fact, those demons are everywhere, inhabiting hosts, and only Crystal, if she remains strong, is strong enough to defeat them. What I liked most was how Crystal stuck to her principles in spite of everything. Clearly lends itself to a sequel. Good reading.
Crystal Scott has always been a good girl, one that has never felt the need to lie to her parents , love her parents and follows rules. Seventeen years later , she is at school when she experiences her teacher's eyes looking dead and feels sick. Soon , it is discovered that demons are infiltrating the city and her friends and inside of Crystal is the power to stop the fight between good and evil as within her body is the power of light and strong light as well. Soon we discover that this war links back to her parents and that their is a organisation called The Covenant who make it their job to stop the demons from overpowering the people of America. If you are looking for a teen novel with a supernatural twist and set in the eyes of a high schooler, then check out Aura by Rebecca Lynn Talley.
All though the topic wasnt new to a story, i honestly liked the way the author got to it.
+ The aura part of this was a definitely good twist to this novel
+ i love the thought of every bad thing dims our light and every good thing makes it shine brighter
+ What Crystal goes through is what every other character in those other paranormal books go through but the way Crystal is makes it so much more individualized
- Between both Crystal and Vincent's point of view, i was disappointed to see they were the only ones focused on
- For being so big and bad, Vincent sure went down fairly easily
+ The way Crystal stays true to both herself and her morals is what i loved probably most because not everyone is strong enough
Was this a series or just one book is what i really wanted to know because i wouldnt mind reading what the author has for us next!
